Cat5e Bulk Cable - A Real Deal

September 17th, 2007 - No Responses

You’ve probably read or watched on the news somewhere about the recent rash of burglaries involving all things copper - pennies, cables and the liberty bell are all in high demand. This is due to a surge in the price of copper in the world market. It’s gotten to the point where a penny is actually worth more than a penny when melted down and sold for copper. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not encouraging anyone to steal copper. What I am pointing out is the fact that most networking cables, like this one now cost roughly $100 for a 1,000 foot Cat5e cable. If you’re looking for a deal, check out Sewell Direct’s Cat5e bulk cable. They deliver 1,000 feet of unterminated UTP Cat5e cable for only $55.95. I haven’t checked the conversion rate yet, but that thing is worth its weight in copper. :)

USB to GPIB - quick and easy

Adding bluetooth with a USB dongle is pretty easy - turns out so is adding GPIB with a USB to GPIB Adapter.

The setup is easy and the interface is intuitive so you can setup your GPIB devices to be controlled over the LAN or internet with ease. The only thing we found wrong with this device is the price tag - $346 - but still way better than the $675 required for an Ethernet to GPIB!

USB to DVI Display Adapter Done Right

August 1st, 2007 - No Responses

Every now and then, we get tipped on something really cool, and this is one of those times. Thanks to Posterchild for showing us the USB to DVI Adapter, listed as an upcoming product on SewellDirect.com.

USB to DVI

The USB to DVI display adapter adds a high-res DVI out port to your computer, complete with on board video and 128MB of memory.

The best part? Because all of the processing is external, all you need on your computer is a free USB port to add a DVI screen with resolution as high as 1400×1050.

Even better? It only costs 119.95, way less than any existing alternatives.

Audio Authority Component Video Down Converter, Mixed Signal Switch, Video Processor

Audio Authority Component Video Down Converter, Mixed Signal Switch, Video ProcessorThis ridiculously long-titled product is actually pretty awesome, depite the cumbersomeness (sp?) of the title. Imagine being able to take your totally awesome HD DVD player and plug it into your old-school analog TV set! I know, I know, it sounds too good to be true. But apparently there are people that want to do this, and this box makes it happen without totally wrecking the image.

In all honesty, though, I can see the use here. I mean, if you paid a ton of money for a nice analog setup, the idea of switching everything to digital, just so you can use your DVD player is a little unreasonable. And think of the application for large-scale distribution setups that accept analog but not digital video? This lets you use up-to-date media while still allowing you to use your old hardware. Also note that this outputs to computer monitor refresh rates as well. So what’s not to love, seriously?

The Ultimate PC to TV Converter

September 28th, 2006 - No Responses

Audio Authority PC/HD to PC/HD ScalerThis converter from Audio Authority is arguably the best PC to TV solution I’ve ever seen. Not only does it play both ways (pc to hdtv display or hdtv source, like a dvd player, to a pc screen) it also scales the image so it looks great, no matter what display you’re using.

I also like this scaler’s configuareability. You can edit just about anything about the way the image is processed: contrast, brightness, color saturation, rgb levels, h-v positioning, and a whole host of other options. It’s pretty much the coolest.
